Live from Muirfield
The article written on July 19, 2013 “Drive for show, Putt for dough” was a great article that described that your driving distance in golf does not win tournaments for you. The article said, “Zach Johnson is one of the shortest hitters off the tee box, but yet he is still leading the open after one round.” The course in Muirfield was quite demanding for some people.
The course demanded great accuracy. The reason the course required great accuracy was because the course was in Scotland, and the ground was very hard. Therefore, the ball ran a long way. The other huge reason the course demanded accuracy was because it had waist high rough that was practically impossible to hit out of it.
The course was very difficult for the long hitters such as Bubba Watson, and Dustin Johnson. For example, it said, “The fact that many of the long hitters struggled yesterday, accuracy trumps distance here at Muirfield. Francesco Molinari, for example, shot a 2-under 69, leaving him in a tie for 9th place.” It also says, “He also hit an incredible 16 greens, ranking him second in greens in regulation. However, while Molinari’s putting was not entirely lacking, he had seven more putts than Johnson.”
The course at Muirfield was proven to be very difficult. The Claret Jug will be waiting for the best available player. The Claret Jug was a very high honor to received for winning the tournament. The Claret Jug was perhaps one of the most coveted trophy in the game of golf.
Be careful to not just summarize! Why does this article interest you? Does it make you feel better about your own golf game? Can you personally relate?
